Book 3 in the Los Diggities™ Series
By Jeanie Cunningham & Elisabeth Thormodsrud

Oscar, Oso & Xena were laying by the pool one day when Jeanie came out of the studio for a break from her work.

"Well hello kids!  How's my digs?"  She went over to Oso who immediately rolled over on his back.  "Sito-Dito-Dawg...are you showing me your hairy belly?"

With that she reached down and pet Oso's belly as he happily stretched out his back legs.  "Now Dito, I don't want to see no stinkin' 'Harry Bellyfonty'...you got a big old hairy belly, so I'm going to start calling you 'Harry Bellyfonty' everytime you roll over like that."

(For those who are too young to remember, there once was a very famous calypso singer by the name of "Harry Belafonte", and often Jeanie would sing his "Banana Song"..."Day oh!  Day oh Day oh!  Daylight come and me want to go home".  Typically, Jeanie however had transformed the song into a new, unimproved version: "DIG dogs, dig dogs dig dogs, a-tail waggin' a diggityogs!")

Of course it didn't rhyme and of course it made no sense to anyone but Jeanie, but the dogs didn't mind.  Jeanie was silly after all and it was perfectly okay by them--until she started coming up with new versions of their names.  Then they simply had to endure the nicknames she gave them because, well, she loved them and took good care of them all.  And, they loved her as well so they put up with her silliness even though some of her nicknames bordered on being...embarrassing.

"Hello Mr. Weegle" said Jeanie as she walked over to Oscar who was busy sunning himself on the pavement.  He looked up at her and grinned his goofy smile.  "Is him being a sunbathing goofball?" Jeanie reached down and gently tugged on his ear, then stroked his chest.  His tail began wiggling back and forth furiously. "Cuz he's a wiggle, he's just a wiggle, a wiggle buuuutt!  He's just a weegle butt! A-hunh-huh", she sang in her imitation Elvis voice.

Oscar kept grinning, but inside he cringed.  He HATED that nickname..."Wigglebutt"?!?

He couldn't help it that when he got really excited, his little stub of a tail was not enough to communicate his happiness, so his entire back end would...wiggle.  And of course, Jeanie had to make a song out of that, and ultimately gave him a nickname that embarrassed him.  He put up with it out of respect and love for Jeanie, but boy, did he hate it.

Jeanie went over to Xena.  "Are you sunbathing too Miss Bo-Beans?"  Xena stretched out full length, lifted her head to acknowledge Jeanie, then laid it back down and shut her eyes.  "I hope she doesn't start with the full list of nicknames for me" she thought to herself. "Maybe if I close my eyes Jeanie will go back into the studio and not, like, make up any NEW names today..."
